Predictable...

My love for children's ministry was emphasized again this week as my own precious birthday girl turned 5 this week. All I kept saying to her was "you're 5 now, you need to act like a big 5 year old" and stuff like "Kenna c'mon, you're in Kindergarten, you need to brush your hair yourself," or "pick up your stuff." This week all I could think and tell God, was that she needed to grow up a little. Well He told me! My problem is that I need to model grace. So I prayed about that and came up with the rules in my home that should always be in place:
  • Be Consistent
  • Be Clear
  • Enforce Expectations Together
    & Mostly
  • Make it Predictable
So, I thought I was the best mom ever when I got all prepared for a sit down with Kenna before her party (Being Clear). We went over and over, (Being Consistent) "we open the card first, make sure we know who the present is from, we smile and say thanks, we open the present, we look at that person in the eye and thank them" (Enforcing Expectations Together).

I thought I had it ALL covered, when we were at her party, it was Present Time, she was on about 1000 mg's of sugar, she got the card, opened it, let Mommy read it, opened the present, then as loud as she could, yelled "NEXT!" (Always predictable)

Man, I love working with and for children!
